New E-bus
The “Volta's key” of eco-sustainability
In March 2024 we introduced the first two electric buses eBUS that were added to the urban network, in September 2024 another 23 electric buses also currently running in the urban network service.
eBUS, a vowel that makes a difference
e as electric → powered by an electric-powered motive force.
e as ecologic → 0 emissions.
e as experience → for a more comfortable, vibration-free ride in a quiet environment.
e as economy → eBuses are fully funded by the PNSMS – National Strategic Plan for Sustainable Mobility.
The Peculiarities of eBUSes
The first eBUS as well as the others on the way are technologically advanced, modern vehicles designed for safer, more comfortable and environmentally sustainable travel. They have a length of 12 meters and can provide transportation for 80 people. Innovative features include an air conditioning system (fully electric, no longer diesel), a device for displaying the next stop, a plan available to the driver for real-time monitoring of driving and vehicle conditions, as well as electronic mirrors, i.e., a camera that will replace the traditional mirror. In addition, eBUSs have an immediate recharging system during deceleration: careful driving, it will also allow energy recovery and greater daily range. Another major innovation, with a view to electronic ticketing, is the native system for on-board ticket payment by credit card.
The new vehicles are designed to ensure a better journey for people with physical disabilities: they are equipped with manual platforms (the safest and most efficient) for boarding and have a specific technology – the radio beacon – capable of communicating with the Leti cane Smart for blind and partially sighted people who intend to get on board. The seats, including those for companions, have a specific yellow colour.
For safety, on the road and on board, the eBUS are equipped with internal video surveillance cameras and, available to the driver, a 360-degree camera for real-time traffic conditions.
The new vehicles are recognizable by the new livery – as indicated by the Lombardy Region – white, with a long green arrow along the sides and will be placed in the Tavernola and Lazzago depots, where the first charging stations have already been set up: each vehicle has a average charging time of 5 hours.
The drivers have already undergone specific training courses to be ready when the eBUS enters service.
